After helping guide Manchester United to a memorable Premier League and Champions League double, Portuguese trickster Cristiano Ronaldo was continuously linked with a move to La Liga victors Real Madrid.
With talk of Robinho leaving Santiago Bernabeu gaining credence, it appeared as though Real might land their man. However, United boss Sir Alex Ferguson stood strong and los Merengues ended up recruiting Rafael Van der Vaart while Ronaldo stayed in Manchester.
A sports agency ran by Jorge Mendes - Gestiftute - told Sky Sports that United's number 7 is now keen to commit to the Red Devils' cause and ink a new deal.
"It is normal, that a footballer wants a deal to go with his status and one that matches his performances on the field but nobody has prepared anything concrete," the agency said.
"We want to avoid all these rumours in the press and will have contact with United.
"We do predict a meeting with Manchester United to speak about the future of Ronaldo, but still there is not an exact date."
Yesterday Goal.com reported that Ronaldo could be offered a deal worth an estimated £9 million per year.
