AC Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti has often stated his desire to coach his beloved AS Roma one day, and he caused controversy last week when he stated that Luciano Spalletti could well pack his bags if he wins the Champions League with the Lupi.
“I did not like his comments, I am friend with Carlo, but those words seriously annoyed me,” club director Bruno Conti is quoted as saying in La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“No one will touch Spalletti and we are firmly keeping hold of him.”
The tactician came under heavy criticism at the beginning of the season, when Roma terribly stuttered in Serie A and in the Champions League, and there were reports that his adventure in the Italian capital was drawing to an end.
But the Lupi managed to reverse their fortunes in style, registering an eight-game winning streak in all competitions and going through to the last 16 of the Champions League in first place.
“I will always back Spalletti, because he is our boss and is doing great things,” concluded the former Roma and Italy legend.
