Jeremy Menez put in a splendid performance at the Stadio Bentegodi, as Roma notched up a 1-0 win against Chievo, their fourth success on the trot in Serie A.
The Frenchman has not been able to live up to his reputation so far in the Italian capital, but his heroics against the Flying Donkeys might eventually see him turn the corner.
“He is a great lad and thoroughly deserved this goal,” Philippe Mexes told Sky Sport Italia after the match.
“I am really happy for Jeremy, for his efforts and also the team, as it was not easy to get a result here. It was crucial to get the three points.
“Menez was outstanding and he had a superb game, even without considering his winner.”
The Lupi have not conceded a single goal in their last four outings and will now prepare their vital Champions League tie with Bordeaux.
“When we are focused and defend as a team, everything is easier, but you also need a bit of luck and a great goalkeeper,” he admitted.
“The clash with the French side will be fundamental for us and we want to keep our momentum going.
“We are really concentrated and aware that it is going to be really difficult for them to beat us in our own backyard.”
