A Julio Baptista glancing header just five minutes into the second half edged Luciano Spalletti’s men past Lazio last night and the former Milan and Real Madrid defender feels this result could give them a much-needed shot in the arm for the rest of the campaign.

“This Derby game came about in a difficult moment for us and the fact that we won means that this side are still here,” the 35-year-old stopper said after the encounter.

“I want to dedicate this victory to our fans and also to Franco Sensi. This was the first time we played a stracittadina without him and I believe he would have been pleased with our performance.”

El Grinta seemed annoyed at being replaced toward the end of the tie, but insists that it was just a spur-of-the-moment reaction.

“I am never happy when the coach substitutes me,” smiled the Savona native, “but it was only right that [Marco] Cassetti came on as there were ten minutes to go.

“Everything is fine and we are all satisfied because we are finally getting back on track.”
