New Milan midfielder David Beckham has denied reports suggesting England coach Fabio Capello told him to sign for the Italian side.
The former Manchester United midfielder was officially unveiled by the San Siro club on Saturday night, and he cannot wait to start his latest adventure.
Beckham gave his first press conference as a Milan player and he reveals there were never any orders from Capello.
"I respect Capello plenty and I asked for his opinion, no-one told me to sign for a team," Beckham told Sky Sport Italia.
"I wanted to play in Italy and I asked as to whether there was a possibility to come to Milan.
"Capello just told me to play at the highest level and thus Milan was the perfect choice.
"It will be hard to play straight away. I am feeling fine, I just need to train. I am thinking about staying here for years, even though you never know what might happen."
Becks is at Milan in an attempt to prove his worth to the England national team and get back into it for World Cup 2010.
"If someone doesn't give his best then he doesn't deserve to be called up to the national team," added the midfielder.
"It would be an honour for me to play for England again. I will try and get back in the national team and I will do it by playing well at Milan. This is my objective."
