Inter Milan could be set to scupper the potential transfer of Andrei Arshavin to Premier League club Arsenal this January.

It was thought that the Gunners were leading the way for the signature of the Russian international, with the only stumbling block being the fee the North London-based outfit are willing to offer.

Apparently, Arsenal have upped their initial offer of €11 million (£10 million) to around €13.5 million plus a further €6 million dependent on appearances and silverware.

However, according to the British tabloid The Daily Star, Zenit St. Petersburg are holding out for €27.5 m while Arsene Wenger's club are reluctant to part with half that figure.

Inter, on the other hand, are claimed to be prepared to pay around €16.5 m for the versatile attacker, therefore leaving the Gunners in a position where they may have to increase their bid or search for another target.

Stories emanating from Russia also insist that another potential problem for any buying club is that the player's agent, Dennis Lachter, wants €5.5 m of any fee paid to Zenit.
