Inter have had a relatively quiet opening to the New Year, following a 1-1 draw against Cagliari on the weekend, and a 3-1 extra-time triuimph over Genoa last night in the Coppa Italia.

Despite the side’s failure to win over 90 minutes thus far in 2009, the coach of the Nerazzurri, Jose Mourinho, is looking forward to the year ahead, in particular the club’s next match in the competition against Roma.

“I am happy because we are in the quarter-finals to take on Roma, making it an intriguing contest” Mourinho declared to Sky.

“Against [Luciano] Spalletti’s team it will be a great spectacle, one that will be enjoyed by all.

“I like to play against them, as they are a great team that play fantastic football. I hope that there will be many more spectators present than there were tonight,” he added.

“Last year, the Giallorossi won the final, however this year we have already defeated them in the Supercup, and who knows, we may even beat them in the race to win the Champions League,” he concluded.

Inter will be hoping to record their first regulation time victory of the New Year this weekend in Bergamo, when they do battle with Atalanta at the Atleti d’Azzurri stadium.
