Luis Figo has heaped praise on Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldo.
The Manchester United ace became the third Portuguese player to have won it after the Inter man and the legendary Eusebio.
The Madeira-born winger scooped the prestigious award on Tuesday morning to make history for his country and join two legends of the game.
Figo is delighted and proud of his successor and he sent a special message to Ronaldo from Inter's Appiano Gentile training ground.
“I am full of pride and happiness that the Ballon d'Or went to Cristiano Ronaldo,” Figo is quoted as saying on Tuttomercatoweb.com.
“He is the third player in the history of Portuguese football to have conquered it after Eusebio in 1965 and myself in 2000.”
Figo has been in and out of form and a succession of injuries has also taken its toll on the star.
The midfielder is currently fighting for a starting role in Jose Mourinho's side.
