The Beneamata bought full rights to the former Chievo Verona star this summer, but were keen to send him out on loan again to gain more experience.
However, a deal with Premier League side Everton fell through and he was forced to remain at Appiano Gentile.
But despite a difficult start, the hitman seems to have gained José Mourinho’s trust and has been playing a bigger role in recent weeks.
“I soon felt at home here, but Mourinho was very straight with me at the beginning,” Obinna revealed to the Gazzetta dello Sport.
“He warned me that I would probably not get many chances this year and I recall that he even showed me the roster with all the forwards at his disposal.
“Nonetheless, he also hinted that if I had applied myself, I could get my opportunity to shine. And my debut in the game with Bologna was absolutely a fantastic feeling, as I was finally able to wear this shirt after three seasons in the wings.”
There have been rumours recently that Roma might table a bid for the rising star next January in order to resolve their striking issues.
“I don’t know anything about it,” confessed the Nigerian, “I don’t care about the transfer market at the moment.
“These decisions are up to the club and the coach. I just aim to play and seeing as I am doing it here now…”
