Messi, Iniesta And Dani Alves Miss Barcelona Training

Several of Barcelona’s big names were missing from the team’s training session yesterday following their win over Atlético Madrid in the Copa del Rey.

Barcelona returned to work yesterday after another clinical job well done on Wednesday night when they dispatched Atlético Madrid 2-1 at the Camp Nou to advance to the Copa del Rey quarter finals 5-2 on aggregate.

But a number of their key players skipped Thursday’s training session for various injury reasons. Most worrying was the news that Lionel Messi, who only featured in the last 20 minutes of the clash against Atleti, was absent due to a knock on his left ankle.

Midfield playmaker, Andrés Iniesta, who played the full 90 against Los Colchoneros, also failed to turn out at La Masía due to a thigh strain, while Dani Alves and Sergio Busquets, both also starters in midweek, could only do light workout in the gym.

There’s no word yet whether the foursome will be fit, or whether coach, Pep Guardiola, will decide to risk them for Saturday’s La Liga encounter with Deportivo La Coruña. But the team will resume training on Friday where their condition will be assessed again. It will also be the last time the squad use the Camp Nou facilities for training as from Monday onwards, they will move to their new Joan Gamper Sports City.
