Michel Salgado was in defiant mood after Real Madrid's 2-0 loss at Barcelona, maintaining his belief that Real Madrid will win the league.
Speaking after the match, Salgado said: “I have a different read on the game. I'd give the team a 10 in every aspect. There were a lot of jokes made about how many goals we'd concede. The game was at its finest when the corner was taken. We defended too close to goal.
"We knew we'd have our chances. Barcelona are already celebrating the league, but we are only thinking about beating Valencia and getting to January in prime form. There is still a lot of the league to be played.”
He then went on to make a bold prediction: “After this match last year I said we'd win the league, and I'll say it again this year. We need to get our injured players back. It's a shame Robben couldn't play today. Barcelona didn't have many clear scoring chances. We'll play our hearts out in the return leg.”
Gonzalo Higuain, meanwhile, also echoed similar sentiments.
"Despite having several injuries to deal with we proved that any player on this team can play. Palanca did a great job. We should feel proud of our performance and for hanging in there pound for pound.
"They capitalized on their offensive potential. No one had faith in us, but we proved that we wanted to win. We believed in ourselves from the very start."
Finally, he reaffirmed his belief that the league is far from over: "They are twelve points ahead of us, but there's a long way to go. We are Real Madrid and we always play to win.”
