It has been revealed that Real Madrid’s Ruud Van Nistelrooy will miss the remainder of the season as the Dutch striker requires a similar operation to that which he underwent in 2000 prior to joining Manchester United from PSV.

It’s a crushing blow to Los Merengues and as a result, they are now in searach of a possible replacement.

Many names have been linked with the club in recent weeks and the latest, accoring to Datasport, is Hernan Crespo of Inter Milan, who is all but certain to leave the Italian club in January following another falling out with boss Jose Mourinho.

It has been reported that Madrid are keen on the striker as, amongst other things, he is not cup-tied in the Champions League, due to his omission from the competition's squad by Mourinho.

The other two names that are on El Real's radar are Didier Drogba of Chelsea and Diego Milito of Genoa, who has had a tremendous season in the Serie A thus far since his summer move from Real Zaragoza.

A move to the nine time European champions for Crespo sounds unlikely, however if he is who the club want, then the move could be a real possibility.

It is also rumoured that the 31-time La Liga champions are also interested in Manchester United's Carlos Tévez, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar of Ajax, Mario Gomez from Stuttgart, and CSKA Moscow man Vagner Love.
