Salvador Cabanas to make first appearance since shooting - report
The Paraguayan idol will fulfil his vow to return to professional football on Saturday, when he takes the field for 12 de Octubre two years after nearly losing his life
Salvador Cabanas is poised to complete his incredible recovery from the brink of death to make a return to football, as he prepares to take the field this weekend as part of 12 de Octubre.Left in intensive care after being shot in the head on January 25, 2010 in Mexico City, 'Chava' has always maintained that he would play professional football again - despite the fact that the bullet that almost took his life is still lodged in his skull.
The 31-year-old Paraguayan trained at first with local giants Libertad, and since the start of the year has been a part of Asuncion outfit 12 de Octubre.
As revealed by D10, the former international striker will be part of the Tejedores team that begin their season on Saturday against Martin Ledesma. The club play in the Primera B Metropolitana, which is the third tier of Paraguayan football.
Cabanas started his career with 12 de Octubre before moving to Chile's Audax Italiano in 2001. Regarded as one of the most talented forwards in Latin America before the tragic incident, the stocky striker was named South American Player of the Year in 2007.
