"The situation of Salvador is stable. The problem is under control at the moment and there have been no unfavourable changes. That gives us peace of mind. The situation remains very serious though," said doctor Ernesto Martinez at a press conference.
"We do not know how long the swelling will remain. We are almost 62 hours after the operation now. I expect the swelling to decrease after about 72 hours, so we have to wait."
Cabanas was shot in the head inside the "Bar Bar" night club in Mexico City on the morning of January 25. There is no known reason for the attack, but the player was reportedly conscious on the way to the hospital.
Cabanas received medical attention during the early hours of the morning and was supposed to undergo a craniotomy later in the day. However, doctors decided that it was too risky to proceed and the bullet was not extracted. He remains in a critical but stable condition.
