The Rosario native has become one of South America's most highly-acclaimed trainers since taking over in Santiago in 2011, after a brilliant debut season with the U. Under his direction, the Chileans lifted both the Apertura and Clausura titles and also broke their continental duck with victory in the Copa Sudamericana.
Sampaoli had initially ruled out talk of leaving his club; but speaking on Tuesday, he revealed that he would talk to Pincha officials to follow up their interest in hiring him.
"A few minutes ago an Estudiantes director called me to see when we could meet, but he asked me not to reveal his name," the former O'Higgins and Emelec coach explained to Radio Rivadavia.
"I would be delighted to meet with them, to see if my ideas and their project for the club are one and the same. They will be hearing a plan in which the essence is to focus more on the opposition net than our own."
A journeyman career on the sidelines has seen the 52-year-old coach in Peru, Ecuador and Chile, but never in his own nation away from the lower leagues. Sampaoli confessed that his lack of experience in Argentina was something he has a great desire to change.
"Coaching in Argentine football remains an outstanding debt for me. I am sure that other names are still being juggled and we have to see what happens in the coming hours," he concluded.
Sampaoli was a youth player at Newell's Old Boys, but was forced to hang up his boots at the age of 19 due to injury and never appeared professionally.
