Eredivisie side Groningen have received some bad news on the injury front in the buildup towards the league match against Roda. Holding midfielder Evgeniy Levchenko has sustained a hamstring injury.
The Ukrainian international complained about hamstring trouble after Thursday's training session and Levchenko has opted to skip this week's game in order to return to full match fitness.
The 31-year-old signed for Groningen from Sparta in 2005 and immediately developed into an important first team member. However, a string of injuries has kept him off the pitch more than once in the past two seasons.
Levchenko has only made 13 league appearances this campaign, scoring twice in the process. The highly rated midfielder will probably be replaced by Nigerian youngster Femi or Shkodran Metaj.
Meanwhile, Slovenian youngster Tim Matavz has returned to full match fitness after an ankle injury and will be part of Groningen's match squad again.
