This weekend, Heerenveen surprisingly thrashed Amsterdam giants Ajax, while Feyenoord were beaten 2-0 by NEC.

Additionally, PSV, Groningen and NAC all won their respective matches and stay in the upper regions of the table.

Volendam, Sparta and Roda were all beaten in the relegation zone, but Vitesse grabbed a point against Willem II.

This week’s line-up appears in a 4-2-3-1 as follows:

Goalkeeper:

Michel Vorm (Utrecht): What a week for the young Utrecht shot stopper. Holland boss Bert van Marwijk added him to the Holland squad for the first time in his career and he kept a clean sheet against Twente. Made a crucial save when he denied Eljero Elia the equaliser.

Defenders:

Sepp de Roover (Groningen): The Belgian right back is in a superb form and will be disappointed that he was left out of the Belgium selection for the upcoming WC Qualifiers. His surging runs down the right and his good crosses were a major threat for the ADO Den Haag defence.

Francis Dickoh (Utrecht): The Danish defender has been heavily criticized for his shaky performances so far this season, but he was outstanding against UEFA Cup hopefuls Twente. His goal in the second half was just the icing on the cake for Dickoh.

Kristian Bak Nielsen (Heerenveen): Bak Nielsen played his first competitive match after a ten-month absence, but the Danish defender was a tower of strength. Huntelaar never had a chance against him and Bak Nielsen was very important for Heerenveen with his timely tackles and key blocks.

Henrik Moisander (AZ): The former Ajax youngster signed for AZ from Eerstedivisie side Zwolle last summer, but is having absolutely no trouble adjusting to the higher level. Moisander was solid as a rock against Sparta and scored a magnificent goal to celebrate his fine display.

Holding Midfielders:

Mika Vayrynen (Heerenveen): Vayrynen was instrumental in midfield for his side and totally outplayed Ajax midfielders Sarpong, Vertonghen and Lindgren. Unlucky not to cap his performance with a goal, but will be satisfied more than satisfied with the 5-2 win against Ajax.

Lorenzo Davids (NEC): The nephew of Edgar Davids played a very strong match against Feyenoord. Has the stamina to keep on going and his intelligent passing caused a lot of danger for Feyenoord.

Attacking Midfielders:

Roy Beerens (Heerenveen): The young right-winger was simply amazing against Ajax and made Urby Emanuelson look like a beginner throughout the match. Beerens capped his wonderful performance with the beautiful second goal after only eight minutes.

Mounir El Hamdaoui (AZ): The AZ forward was simply outstanding for the second week in a row and helped his side in thrashing Sparta 6-0 with two goals. The Moroccan forward is in a great form at the moment and is the key man for AZ in their way up the table.

Willy Overtoom (Heracles): The former AZ youngster made the step from amateur side Hollandia to Eredivisie team Heracles last summer and has already made it to the starting XI. He gifted his side the three points against Roda with an impressive display and was a real pain in the backside for the Roda defenders with his speed.

Striker:

Matthew Amoah (NAC): The Ghanaian forward added two more goals to his tally and is currently the leading top scorer in the Eredivisie with eight goals after five matches. Amoah was a constant threat for the Volendam defence and showed once again that he doesn’t need much chances to find the net.

Honourable mentions:

There are a number of players who didn’t make it to the final XI, but who deserve to be mentioned.

Koen van der Laak played an excellent match for Groningen against ADO Den Haag and gave two assists.

Moussa Dembele was instrumental for AZ as a striker. He added two goals to his tally and is finally showing his true potential.

Saidi Ntibazonkiza doubled the lead for NEC against Feyenoord with a nice goal and was a constant threat for the Feyenoord defence with his mazy dribbles.

Danijel Pranjic, Christian Grindheim and Gerald Sibon were all magnificent in Heerenveen’s 5-2 Ajax thrashing.
