It has been an eventful few days in South America, with pre-tournament favourites Argentina and Brazil bowing out at the quarter-final stage, along with Colombia and Chile. Their defeats have also eliminated four of our nominees for the Copa top scorer award, leaving the race wide open.
However, Aguero, who scored three goals before Argentina's exit, still leads the standings and he has been backed to win the honour by 33 per cent of voters.
Brazil's Neymar and Alexandre Pato both received 20% of the vote but are now out of contention with only two goals to their name, along with Colombia's Radamel Falcao, who attracted 15% of the vote.
Peru's Jose Paolo Guerrero, who also has two goals at the Copa America, is the only one of our nominees who remains in the competition but he attracted just 4% of the vote, while the 'other' category received 8%.
Indeed, beyond Guerrero, Uruguay's Alvaro Pereira is the only player remaining in the tournament who has scored more than one goal, suggesting Aguero could well hold on to the accolade.
