Mexico Ace Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez Tries To Recapture Magic With Chivas

Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez has scored four goals in three games with Mexico but has not scored a goal in Chivas' last five games.

After scoring Mexico’s second goal to confirm the 2-1 win over North Korea on Wednesday night at the Territorio Santos Modelo, Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez reverted his focus back to Chivas and the upcoming game against Monterrey on Saturday for the Bicentenario 2010.

Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez has been unable to score in the past four games with Chivas. He accumulated eight goals in the first five rounds of play, propelling himself to the top of the goal scoring charts but has not added any more goals with Chivas. However, the absence of goals with his club team is not something that concerns Hernandez, rather it’s the points that the team has let go in the past games that’s a concern to the player.

“There is some desperation on my part, but it’s because of the points that we’ve let go these past two rounds,” said Javier ‘Chicharito Hernandez in a press conference Thursday afternoon.

“Just as in the past season and this one, goals aren’t my obsession. I try to add my contribution, my efforts and give my all for the team. The same as my teammates, we want a championship and we want a Liguilla.”

Chivas currently hold the Superlider spot in the Bicentenario 2010 with 25 points; defending champions Monterrey are right behind Chivas with 23 points. First place in the general table is something extra for Hernandez who’s mind is on qualifying for the post season with Chivas.

“Whether the goals fall or don’t fall, what’s in my head is to qualify and to get a favorable result and points every round of play. I believe that they can be extras because what we have in mind is qualifying. Maybe with these three points we can get closer to the main goal and continue as leaders(in the general table). That’s not our obsession, (it’s) to qualify.”

‘Chicharito’ scored the winning goal against North Korea, but he continues to be unsure of a secured spot in Javier Aguirre’s  final roster for the World Cup in South Africa.

“I think it’s something that still has ground to cover. There’s no one for sure and the manager is the one to decide and one just has to work and enjoy the moment. It was a great game on Wednesday, but the best thing was giving the fans that went to go watch and support us a win; the important thing is to get the win,” Hernandez said.
