Violence breaks out in the Danubio-Nacional clash in Uruguay.
A group of fans from Club Nacional de Football of Montevideo interrupted Nacional's training session in Colonia on Thursday, by threatening players with firearms, in demand for free team shirts to sell.

Nacional president Ricardo Alarcon advised the authorities about the situation, and he stated that his team won't face crosstown rivals Penarol in a Copa Bimbo match on Saturday, due to "the lack of security."

It was reported that twelve barrabravas, who are predominantly made up of people from dangerous neighbourhoods and with a lack of education, appeared at the Hotel Days Inn, in Colonia, where Nacional were performing pre-season training.

Apparently the violent fans approached several players and demanded official team shirts, in order to be sold, so that they can pay for their travel costs when Nacional take part in the 2009 Copa Libertadores.

The Uruguayan giants are expected to take up to 10,000 fans to the Estadio Monumental de Nunez when they face River Plate in a first round match in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

But the Nacional players refused to give the fans shirts, arguing that they have yet to receive their new kits. After tussles with the fans, Nacional boarded the team bus and left.

However, the barrabravas didn't give up, and followed the team bus in their cars. It was then when they got out their firearms. The driver of the bus took a different route, but to no avail.

Finally, the Nacional squad came to an agreement with the fans after long discussions. It is unknown whether they will provide them with shirts in the future.

Nacional, who along with Penarol are considered a "big team" of Uruguayan football, count with one of the most loyal fan bases in South America. The atmosphere generated by fans during games is incredible at times, but often things get out of hand.
