Partizan’s Moreira Recovering After Fainting Against Sevilla
FK Partizan’s Moreira gave the fans at Sevilla’s Sanchez Pizjuan stadium a scare that they never want to relive after he collapsed during last night’s UEFA Cup clash.
There was an eerie and unwanted sense of déjà vu at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan overnight when Sevilla hosted FK Partizan in a Group C UEFA Cup tie.
The Serbian outfit’s Portuguese midfielder, Moreira, collapsed on the pitch without any clear cause just three minutes into game. He lay on the ground unconscious as players from both teams desperately rushed to his aid to prevent him swallowing his tongue, in a scene reminiscent of the tragic Antonio Puerta episode of just over a year ago at the very same stadium.
The player was carefully stretchered off the ground and immediately taken to hospital, where he has since regained consciousness.
“It has been a scare and it is something that should not have happened,” confirmed Sevilla’s club doctor, Pablo Alfaro, who accompanied him to the Hospital Virgen del Rocio.
Moreira will spend the night in the hospital where the necessary tests on his brain and heart will be conducted.
