The Stadium of Palestine in Gaza was left partially destroyed following a wave of air attacks, but the governing body has given assurances to the Spanish side

Athletic Bilbao have confirmed that they have been given the green light by Uefa to travel to Israel for their Europa League match against Ironi Kiryat Shmona on Thursday.

Safety concerns have arisen following recent events in the country and on the nearby Gaza Strip, and football in the region has now been hit after a wave of air attacks on Saturday damaged the Stadium of Palestine.

However, the European governing body has since moved to reassure the Liga club of their security ahead of the midweek fixture, which will be played in the northern Israeli city of Haifa.

"Given the seriousness of the latest developments in the area, Athletic are in continuous contact with Uefa in order to preserve the safety of supporters who travel to Haifa on Wednesday November 21 for the group stage match against Hapoel Kiryat Shmona," a statement on the club's official website read.

"Given the requirements from our club, European football's governing body has informed Athletic that, to date, security and, therefore, the match, is guaranteed in Israel.

"Athletic will communicate any changes that may occur immediately and maintain contact at all levels to ensure the safety of the coaches, players, fans and representatives of the media traveling to Israeli territory."
