Europa League:
Matchday Four

Groups G-L

Fixtures/Results
GROUP G
BASEL 1 0 VIDEOTON SPORTING CP
1 1 GENK
Basel finally emerged victorious in this season's Europa League group stage as they narrowly edged out a spirited Videoton side at St Jakob-Park.

The Swiss side held their nerve throughout to strike their winner 10 minutes from time as Marco Streller held off the challenge of Paulo Vinicius to convert from Mohamed Salah's pass and revitalise their previously faltering campaign - closing the gap to one point between the two sides.

Likewise, Sporting Lisbon failed to take revenge for their defeat two weeks ago as they conceded in injury time with Genk holding onto a 1-1 draw at the Jose Alvalade in Lisbon.

A competitve match sprung into action in the second half as Stijn Schaars was shown a red card for a second bookable offence. It did not stop the hosts though, as Ricky van Wolfswinkel finally opened the scoring, heading in from Diego Capel's dipping cross.

Glynor Plet scored the decisive equaliser in the 93rd minute to break Portuguese hearts and keep Sporting rooted to the bottom as they maintained their lead at the top of Group G.
GROUP H
NEFTCHI BAKU
0 1 RUBIN KAZAN
PARTIZAN
1 3 INTER
Inter booked a place in the last 32 with a comfortable 3-1 victory away to Partizan Belgrade in Serbia. (see full report here).

Earlier in the evening, Rubin Kazan also sealed qualification to the next round as they narrowly beat Neftchi in the Azerbaijani capital.

Vladimir Dyadun's fine header was the difference between the two sides, heading in from Bibras Natkho's well delivered cross. The Russian side progress alongside the 2010 Champions League winners.
GROUP I
KIRYAT SHMONA
1 1 SPARTA PRAGUE
ATHLETIC BILBAO
2 3 OLYMPIQUE LYON
Hapoel Ironi Kiryat Shmona were left frustrated as they were held to a 1-1 draw, leaving them with a near-impossible task to qualify.

The Israeli side, who are yet to win in Group I, started brightly, having broken the deadlock after three minutes. Laszlo Lencse's fine pass enabled Darko Tasevski to fire under the goalkeeper early on.

Nevertheless, Sparta were in the ascendancy after that setback, and equalised through a fantastic goal. Mario Holek headed on from the half-way line as Leonard Kweueke smashed in from 30 yards to restore parity. Neither side could get the winner in the second half, as Sparta move closer to qualification.

Meanwhile, Olympique Lyonnais qualified for the next round with a fine 3-2 victory over Athletic Bilbao at San Mames.

The hosts were the better side, but were quickly undone as Yoann Gourcuff's free-kick was converted in by Bafetimbi Gomis.

Gourcuff celebrated his call-up to the French national team by scoring the second on the stroke of half-time as Marcelo Bielsa's side floundered.

The second half was a brighter affair for Athletic Bilbao as they scored within three minutes of the re-start. Remy Vercoutre did well to stop an initial effort by Fernando Amorebieta, but could not stop Ander Herrera from reducing the deficit.

Herrera was fouled in the penalty box as Athletic were awarded a spot-kick on 55 minutes. Up stepped Aritz Aduriz to equalise. The lead only lasted eight minutes as Alexandre Lacazette powered Remi Garde's men back in front to seal progression from the group.
GROUP J
LAZIO 3 0 PANTHINAIKOS TOTTENHAM 3 1 MARIBOR
Lazio maintained control of Group J with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Panathinaikos at Stadio Olimpico.

Libor Kozak opened the scoring midway through the first half with a fantastic individual goal, which saw him turn and chip the goalkeeper.

The Czech forward hit another, as the Rome outfit went 2-0 up five minutes before the break. Taking advantage of a defensive lapse, Kozak calmly struck into the bottom corner.

Panthinaikos failed to offer much of a threat, and were handed a further setback in the second half as Sergio Floccari got onto Mauro Zarate's pin-point free-kick delivery to give Vladimir Petkovic's side a seemingly unassailable lead which puts them of the group.

In the other game in London, Tottenham Hotspur ended a run of three straight draws to record a first group win as they beat Maribor 3-1 at White Hart Lane. (see full report here).
GROUP K
METALIST
3 1 ROSENBORG
B LEVERKUSEN
3 0 RAPID VIENNA
Metalist Kharkiv comfortably saw off Rosenborg to end the Norwegian side's dreams and book a place in the last 32 courtesy of a 3-1 win at Metalist Arena.

The Ukrainian outfit took only four minutes to score, with a super effort. Fininho's measured cross was lashed in first-time by Taison with a brilliant volley.

Rosenborg hit back just before half-time as Daniel Holm surged through the middle and assisted for Borek Docal to get the equaliser.

Metalist nevertheless, were not to be denied as Cleiton Xavier's run and measured finish after Taison's clever pass. Juan Torres scored in injury time to seal the win.

Bayer Leverkusen maintained their fine European form as they comfortably eased to a 3-0 victory over Rapid Vienna.

Fresh from beating the Austrian side 4-0 two weeks ago, it took four minutes for the breakthrough to be made in Germany as Jens Hegeler headed in after Junior Fernandes had earlier hit the woodwork.

The hosts were supremely dominant, and made it 2-0 soon after the re-start. Andre Schurrle hit a powerful half-volley on the edge of the area to double his side's advantage. Manuel Friedriech made it 3-0 soon to join Metalist in qualifying from the group.
GROUP L
HANNOVER 3 2 HELSINGBORG
FC TWENTE
0 0 LEVANTE
Hannover progressed to the next round as they held off resistance from nine-man Helsingborg to seal a thrilling 3-2 win.

Mame Biram Diouf fired the Germans ahead after five minutes, latching onto a brilliant delivery by Szabolcs Huszti's corner to grab a goal in his fifth successive game.

Diouf was at it again in the second half, heading in the German side's second as he finished off Lars Stindl's cross.

Nikola Djurdic reduced the deficit soon after, as he ghosted in to connect with a cross from the right wing, as the Swedish side looked for a way back into the game and made it 2-2 as Alejandro Bedoya struck on the half-volley on 67 minutes.

A controversial ending saw Helsingborg reduced to nine men with Walid Atta and Peter Larsson given their marching orders as Huszti scored the winner from the penalty box to seal a place in the last 32.

Meanwhile in Holland, FC Twente's hopes of qualifying took another blow as they were held to a 0-0 draw by La Liga outfit Levante, who sit second in Group L.
