Liverpool’s Europa League Win Overshadowed By Racist Taunts
Victory marred by crowd behaviour…
By Danny Hart
Liverpool’s Europa League qualifier against Macedonian team FK Rabotnicki was marred by racist taunts.
The Reds won the game in the Philip II Stadium with David Ngog scoring in each half to secure a 2-0 victory for an inexperienced Reds side.
However, Rabotnicki could face action by UEFA authorities after pictures emerged of their supporters directing monkey chants towards Liverpool players Ngog and David Amoo.
Racism has reared its ugly head in Macedonian football before. Sol Campbell, Ashley Cole and Emile Heskey were all subjected to abuse from spectators in the same stadium in 2003 when England faced Macedonia.
An English flag was burnt on that occasion, which prompted UEFA to fine the Football Federation of Macedonia £10,730.
