Player Ratings: Valencia 1-1 Werder Bremen
It was an entertaining evening at the Mestalla and Goal.com was on hand to rate the performance of the players.....
By Mondal Subhankar
Cesar: 7.5 - Made three excellent saves in the match, two off Marko Marin.
Miguel: 7 - Put in a few good crosses and although he left gaps at the back, he didn't seem to struggle.
Navarro: 6 - Had a decent but not very encouraging game at the back. He could have made himself a hero late on had he taken his chance.
Dealbert: 6 - Like Navarro, found it tough when Bremen launched counterattacks but recovered in the second session.
Alexis: 5 - Was substituted at the start of the second half and struggled in the first 45 minutes. Not a performance that he will remember.
Pablo: 8 - Put in one of his best performances in the Europa League this campaign as he worked tirelessly on the flanks, putting in cross after cross. He could have scored on two occasions and his tricks and movements troubled the Bremen defenders throughout the match.
Marchena: 6 - Fought hard against the Bremen attackers but on other occasions looked good, cynical and strong.
Banega: 5.5 - His rating would have been higher had he not been sent off ten minutes into the second half. Looked creative and helped in his side's attacking moves in the first half.
Mata: 7.5 - The Valencia youngster scored a good goal that restored parity. He was creative along the flanks and sent in a number of good crosses too.
Silva: 7 - Had two or three good chances to put his name on the score sheet but couldn't take them. However, the Spanish international looked quick and gave the Bremen defenders a headache for the 90 minutes.
Villa: 6.5 - It was not one of his best days as he blew a great chance and could have scored on a couple of occasions. However, Villa linked up well with his team-mates and brought them into play.
Substitutes:
Alba: 6 - Did better than Alexis after he came on and added steel to the Valencia backline.
Joaquin: N/A
Baraja: N/A

WERDER BREMEN
Wiese: 7.5 - Saved a number of Valencia shots and kept Bremen in the game and in the tie.
Fritz: 6 - Looked vulnerable on occasions as the Valencia players came out in droves but he maintained his calm and composure.
Mertesacker: 7 - Had a good game at the back, made many challenges and interventions.
Naldo: 7 - Like Mertesacker, Naldo too was defensively very important and made important challenges and clearances.
Pasanene: 6.5 - Complemented his fellow defenders well.
Frings: 7 - Controlled the midfield on occasions, blocked the opposition's moves and also scored a penalty.
Borowski: 6.5 - The only member of the current Bremen side that played in the last match between the two teams. The German midfielder looked good and helped in his side's moves.
Ozil: 7 - Created many moves and passes for his team-mates from the midfield and kept the Valencia defenders on their toes.
Hunt: 7 - Could have added his name to the scores heet tonight, looked mobile and creative.
Marin: 6.5 - Had two good chances but saw them saved by Cesar. He found himself at the end of counterattacks but couldn't do anything on those occasions.
Pizarro: 6 - This wasn't his day as he blew a great chance of winning the match towards the end. Pizarro linked up well with his team-mates at times but he could have done better when he was in good positions.
Substitutes:
Bargfrede: 6 - Didn't add much to Bremen's attacking threat after coming on.
Jensen: N/A
