Red Bull Salzburg Coach Huub Stevens Delighted With 'Sensational' Europa League Campaign
The Dutch gaffer was more than happy with Salzburg's results in Europe...
Reigning Austrian champions Red Bull Salzburg failed to qualify for the Champions League after being eliminated by Maccabi Haifa in the play-off round and they had to settle for a Europa League campaign instead.
Things then looked even more gloomy for the Austrians when they were drawn in a group with illustrious teams such as Lazio and Villarreal. But Red Bull weren't flustered, and they recorded six consecutive victories to finish first in the group.
"This really is sensational stuff. It's unbelievable that we managed to win in Spain, Italy and Bulgaria," head coach Huub Stevens said in a press conference after Thursday's 1-0 away win against Villarreal.
"I'm very proud of what we've achieved. As expected, we were exhausted in the final minutes of the game. However, we never stopped fighting and held on to our lead.
"I don't have any preferred opponents for the next round. We can't do anything about it anyway, so we'll just have to wait and see."
