Athletic Bilbao Coach Joaquin Caparros Admits Werder Bremen Were The Better Side
He says his team will be more competitive in the knockout stages...
Three first half goals from the visitors put the tie beyond all doubt at the interval but Bilbao will be consoled by the fact that they still qualify for the knockout stages of Europe's silver medal competition after finishing second in the group.
"How many teams would like to be in our situation? Today we faced a great team [Werder Bremen] and in the next round we will be competitive again," he told a press ocnfernece afterwards.
"It's a great team we saw in San Mames. I liked them in all respects, technically and physically very balanced. The early goal was a big disadvantage for us. In the second half we showed a little more character and looked for the goal that would get us back into the game.
