Villarreal Coach Ernesto Valverde Satisfied As Levski Sofia Win Sees Them Through
The Yellow Submarine are in the knockout stages after their first away win of the season...
Villarreal coach Ernesto Valverde was satisfied after his side's 2-0 win away to Levski Sofia secured their place in the next round of the Europa League.
Two goals from Giuseppe Rossi and Marcos Senna secured the Yellow Submarine's first away win of the season in any competition and Lazio's defeat away to Salzburg means that Villarreal cannot be caught in second place.
"This was not an easy match because the pitch was difficult and we had a hard time adapting to the game, but Villarreal have shown professionalism and has dominated and won," he told a press conference.
"The team has been able to handle the game, has been great in the defensive effort and very secure. The key was to be strong at the back and be sure not to make mistakes.
"We were in trouble after two losses, but the team has reacted and thus we have qualified, which was the goal we sought, and although we do not finish first, now until late January we are free from this competition."
Villarreal face group winner Salzburg in their final game on December 17, with both sides already assured of a knockout place.
