Teams
Rost: 7 - Not his busiest evening but produced two good saves from McDonald to ensure a clean sheet.
Rincon: 7 - Not a natural full-back but dealt well with the threat offered by McGeady and ensured he had a less than productive evening.
Rozehnal: 6.5 - The former Newcastle United man looked vulnerable at times but could have scored with a header that had Zaluska stretching to put it over the bar.
Mathijsen: 6.5 - Like Rozehnal wasn’t completely convincing at the back but unlucky not to score himself with a header that hit the bar.
Aogo: 6 - A decent shift with few mistakes and tried to get forward late on to help out his side.
Elia: 6.5 - Took a while to spark into life but became more influential as the game wore on. Had a couple of decent efforts on goal in the second half but couldn’t find the target.
Jarolim: 6.5 - A feisty showing from the Czech. Careless at times but made it hard for the Celtic midfield with some strong running.
Ze Roberto: 6.5 - Showed glimpses of his true class and looked Hamburg’s main source of inspiration. Had chances with free-kicks but struggled to find the target.
Jansen: 6 - Forced Zaluska into a good save mid-way through the first half but that was the closest he came.
Pitroipa: 7 - Was a real handful for the Celtic defence. Looked good in possession and had several chances but couldn’t find a finish.
Berg: 6 - Scored the winner in the fixture at Celtic Park but couldn’t come up with the goods again and was fairly quiet.

CELTIC
Zaluska: 7 - Made several good saves from Berg and Jansen and frustrated Elias and Rozehnal. Fully deserved his clean sheet.
Hinkel: 6 - Back on German soil and will have been keen to impress but not his best showing and will rue a slip that handed Jansen a clear shooting opportunity.
Caldwell: 6 - Good block on Pitroipa early on but simply didn’t get tight enough at times and had a difficult evening.
Loovens: 6 - Like Caldwell gave Hamburg too much space and guilty of losing Rozehnal who headed onto the bar.
Fox: 6.5 - Did well defensively and pushed forwards in the second half after Naylor arrived but to no great effect.
Robson: 6.5 - Decent display, strong and direct down the right for the Hoops and a decent shot early on.
Crosas: 6 - His first appearance in Europe for Celtic and at times his inexperience showed.
N'Guemo: 6 - Gave the ball away far too easily, far too often and too often chose the wrong pass. However, a great ball to set up Samaras on the hour mark.
McGeady: 5 - Celtic would have expected a lot from the Scot but aside from a great ball to McDonald in the first half he was fairly peripheral and subbed on the hour mark.
Samaras: 5 - Nice pass set up McDonald early on but looked short of confidence in front of goal. Had a couple of clear sights but shot tamely at Rost both times.
McDonald: 6 - Had two good chances but couldn’t convert either, although did force Rost to make the saves on both occasions. Hooked early in the second half.
Substitutes
Naylor: 6 - Had a busy half hour.
Fortune: 5 - Made no impact and barely saw the ball.
McGinn: n/a
