Orlando Pirates coach Palacios does not fear Kaizer Chiefs' Baxter
The Brazilian coach of the Buccaneers was quick to point out that his pre-season preparations are going very well
Orlando Pirates coach Augusto Palacios says he fears no team and no coach ahead of Saturday's Carling Black Label Cup against Kaizer Chiefs. When asked what he thought of the Amakhosi's new coach Stuart Baxter and the fact that he has coached South Africa before, Palacios was quick to respond with a witty remark.
"I also used to coach Bafana. I do not fear any club or any coach," said the Buccaneers coach before touching on the new players and highlighting that he was extremely happy with them.
"We are doing well; it is a process to introduce new players into the club. But everyone has made an effort and I am very happy with the progress of the players.
"The club always buys quality players and I believe these players coming in are very impressive. Most important is that the players (the new signings) know Orlando Pirates. Everyone has to fight for the team – it is not relaxed and I am happy that everyone knows this."
Pirates will be coming into the Carling Cup full of confidence following their victory in the Mbombela Cup this past weekend and Palacios was quick to point out that his pre-season preparations are going well.
"There is no friendly game for Pirates, every game is important for us. We showed that in the Mbombela Cup. And we are happy the way we started our pre-season winning the Mbombela Cup.
"But we are not only preparing for the Carling Cup, we are preparing for the season. This is our fourth week and we try to do our best all the time.
"We have the mentality to win trophies," concluded Palacios.
