The former Moroka Swallows coach will begin his time in charge of Bafana Bafana with a difficult away friendly match against the South Americans
New South Africa coach Gordon Igesund will start with a baptism of fire – a date against Brazil on September 7.Igesund was appointed to the job this past weekend, with Steve Komphela missing out, though his future is still uncertain.
South African FA (Safa) president Kirsten Nemantandani explained that Igesund had been appointed on a two-year "performance-based contract", with his mandate being to reach the semi-finals of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations on home soil, and also to qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
At the press conference Igesund briefly commented, “Thank you to the president and executive committee for entrusting me with this position.
“I feel very honoured and privileged to be in charge of an asset like the national soccer team. All I can say is that I will do my very, very best to make us all proud.”
