Orlando Pirates captain Lekgwathi backs new signings
The Buccaneers skipper believes that the 2012-13 season will be yet another successful campaign for the Soweto club
Orlando Pirates captain Lucky Lekgwathi is confident of more success in the 2012-13 season after the club unveiled its new signings this week. The Buccaneers brought in Patrick Phungwayo, Ayanda Gcaba, Khethowakhe Masuku, Aubrey Ngoma, Onyekachi Okonkwo and Manti Moholo, and Lekgwathi believes the players will play a key role in helping the club to even more silverware.
"It's going to be tough to win other treble; every team will be looking to beat us," he told KickOff.com.
"But the club has signed some great players who will help the club to more success. The chairman [Irvin Khoza] is always willing to bring in top players.
"Last year after we won the treble he didn't just stop there; he signed great players like Benni McCarthy and Siyabonga Sangweni who helped us win another treble. Now he went to the market again to sign players to have more success next season."
Lekgwathi also played down reports that he has signed a new three-year deal at Pirates, saying he hasn't yet spoken to the chairman over a new deal.
"I don't know about signing a new contract. The chairman and me always talk, but we haven't talked about a contract. My current contract is only expiring at the end of next season."
