South Africa fire coach Mosimane following draw with Ethiopia
The Bafana Bafana boss has suffered a number of disappointing results in recent times, and the country's FA has decided to call time on his spell with the national team
Pitso Mosimane has lost his job as South Africa head coach, and he was officially fired just after midnight on Tuesday.Mosimane immediately left the team hotel at Royal Marang in Phokeng, Rustenburg after his sacking was confirmed by Safa CEO Robin Peterson.
Peterson had earlier in the evening driven from Safa House in Johannesburg to Rustenburg to convey the message to Bafana's technical team, after the association’s executive met earlier in the day to deliberate on Bafana Bafana’s poor showing of late.
Bafana have failed to win a match in seven official games, including the 1-1 draw with Ethiopia on Sunday.
Ex-captain Steve Komphela, who was roped in as Mosimane’s assistant early in April, will take charge on an interim basis.
Komphela will be in charge of Bafana’s World Cup qualifier against Botswana on Saturday, June 9 in Gaborone and the friendly international against Gabon on June 15.
Safa are reportedly drafting an offer for Moroka Swallows coach Gordon Igesund, who is currently in China with the Dube Birds, but it seems that he is now making his way back to the country to discuss a deal with the national team.
