EXCLUSIVE: Mamelodi Sundowns Defender Matthew Booth: I Would Steal Daine Klate From SuperSport United
Goal.com spoke to South Africa and Mamelodi Sundowns stopper Matthew Booth as the PSL campaign comes to a close…
By Peter Pedroncelli
Matthew Booth has had a fine season with Mamelodi Sundowns, and the Brazilians were able to take second place in the PSL after a condensed season, with the top honours going to their rivals SuperSport United.
Booth looked back on the season that was and spoke about which opponents he would like to see in a Sundowns shirt.
Goal.com: Sundowns have had a good campaign and you in particular have done well. Do you think the squad is strong enough to take the PSL title next season?
Booth: Yes...right now we've lost the race, but after an inconsistent start we showed a lot of character to chase SuperSport United down to the last game. I think if we keep the same squad and staff we will stand a very good chance next season.
Goal.com: How important has the arrival of Hristo Stoichkov as coach been to the side?
Booth: As soon as he arrived he got instant respect from the players because of his legendary status. He has also got very good assistants who very quickly analysed our game and sorted out our weaknesses.
Goal.com: If you could steal one player from any of the other PSL sides, who would it be?
Booth: Daine Klate from SuperSport United.
Goal.com: Which is more exciting, the Soweto derby or the Tshwane derby?
Booth: Of late the Soweto derby has lost it's shine, and Pretoria teams have led the PSL for the last 20 years so I would have to say the Tshwane derby.
