Malawi's Esau Kanyenda Looking For Return To South African PSL From Russia
Kanyenda is looking to make the most of his freedom before deciding on his next step.
Former Jomo Cosmos striker Esau “Black Mamba” Kanyenda has expressed his desire to return to the PSL, even though his Russian team has offered him a contract extension.
The Malwai man told KickOff.com that First Division side FC Kamaz have asked him to report for training on January 9, at which team he will be offered a new deal.
But he says he has asked the club to wait until he returns from the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations in Angola which begins on January 10.
“Kamaz officials emailed me whilst I was in Egypt with the national team. They said the team is expected to start training on January 9. They have promised me a new contract.”
Kanyenda’s contract expired at the end of the last Russian season after which he announced his plans to return to South Africa.
“It will all depend on what is on offer there. I can’t rule out a return to Russia. I have been there for six years so I am always happy to play there, but I am just as happy to come back to South Africa and play out the rest of my career here.”
Kanyenda told KickOff.com that among the clubs that have shown interest in his services are his former side Cosmos and defending league champions SuperSport United. The striker says that he has put discussions with South African clubs on hold in the hope that he will attract more lucrative offers after the AFCON.
“You never know what is going to happen in Angola. I decided to go there as I am a free agent. It is easier to find a good team because all the clubs know that they will not have to pay a transfer fee,” he said.
Kanyenda won the Man of the Match award in Flames’ 1-1 draw in an international friendly against Egypt in Cairo on Tuesday. Malawi are currently in Swaziland, where they will play against Ghana tomorrow before they leave for Angola.
