Football fans in Mpumalanga are set to taste some CAF Champions League action when SuperSport United host top Swazi side Mbabane Swallows in the second leg of the competition at the newly built Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.Even though preparations for the CAF Champions League match between SuperSport United and Mbane Swallows are still at an early stage, KickOff.com has it on good authority that United have had positive discussions with the management of Mbombela Stadium to stage the game against Swallows in Nelspruit on the weekend of February 26-28.
Matsatsantsa communication manager David Skosana has also confirmed that his club intends to host Swallows in Nelspruit.
“We are still in discussion with relevant people responsible for managing the Mbombela Stadium about taking our game against Mbabane Swallows to Nelspruit. Even though there is a team in PSL from Mpumalanga, we believe that people in certain areas of the province are starved of top football action. We are confident that our discussions will be fruitful,” he added.
Meanwhile SuperSport are set to be the first PSL team to return back for training after the festive holidays. United players are due to report for training in Pretoria on Monday.
Skosana said they are not worried about Mamelodi Sundowns breathing down their necks in the race for the Absa Premiership title.
“We are not worried about anyone. We have been in the same position for the past two seasons. We had Ajax Cape Town fighting to the last minute for the title in 2007\08. Then last season it was Orlando Pirates.
“This time the opportunity has been presented to Mamelodi Sundowns.”
