SuperSport United Coach Gavin Hunt Aware Of Tough Final Few Games In PSL

Hunt looks to make use of his sizeable squad to bounce back after the festive break.

Gavin Hunt, head coach of defending Absa Premiership champions and current league leaders SuperSport United, says he is not worried going into the last six games.

Hunt told KickOff.com that he will have almost a full squad to choose from when his side returns from the festive break on January 4.

“We will only have one player going to the AFCON (African Nations Cup) in Angola and that is Dario Monterio. The rest will be all reporting for training on January 4. We are ready to continue fighting and we know what lies ahead for us to retain the championship,” he said.

United face Pirates in their first game of 2010 on January 3 at Orlando Stadium. In the first round, the defending champions beat the Buccaneers 3-0 at Loftus Stadium.

“Every game is different and tough in it’s own way, and that is why I always say we take one game at a time. In football you lose some and win some, but this time around it is important that we win everything if we are to realise our dream of winning the league for a third time.

“We all know it won’t be easy but it is possible. So we will go out there and do what a team has to do and win games. If we can just maintain our lead then we will finish on top and that is what we are aiming to do after the break,” he said.

United are in pole position with 47 points from 24 games, closely followed by Tshwane neighbours Mamelodi Sundowns on 44 points but with a game in hand.

In the last game before the festive break, Sundowns beat United 1-0 to close the gap at the top.
