Free State Stars coach Gordon Igesund is set to leave for Cape Town to face Ajax Cape Town at Boland Stadium with a depleted squad after five regular players were ruled out of the game due to suspension and injuries...

Stars are still nursing wounds after being beaten 1-0 by Bloemfontein Celtic in the Free State Derby at the Charles Mopeli Stadium on Sunday, and the news that influential captain Duncan Lechesa is one of the players set to miss the game against the Urban Warriors is rubbing salt into their wounds.

However, despite missing some of his key players, Igesund has promised to put together a competitive team to face the Urban Warriors.

“There are going to be lot of changes as we have five players out injured as well as Lechesa, Mdluli and Mashego, who are serving suspension," the coach said, according to Kickoff.com.

“However, this is my chance to look at the other players in the team and this will be a chance for them to make an impression. We are geared up for the trip in Cape Town and this is going to be important game for us as we need to improve our position on the log.”

Igesund also revealed that he is still to meet with his technical team to decide whether they will go into the transfer market to bolster their squad for the remainder of the season. Ea Lla Koto has already lost their Ghanaian Under-20 star Jonathan Mensah, who is to join Udinese in Italy.

“It is big blow for us to lose a player like Mensah and it is going to be difficult to replace him. It is tough in the transfer market at the moment as good players are still contracted to their teams and the likes of Pirates, Chiefs and Sundowns can only release players that are not active in their teams so I will continue with what I have for the moment.”

The former Maritburg United coach has had just more than a week with Free State Stars but says he is already enjoying his stay in Bethlehem.

“I am fine; the set up is good and I am very happy with the facilities that we have here,” he added.
