SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt told KickOff.com that Aaron Mokoena must compete with the likes of MacBeth Sibaya and Kagisho Dikgacoi for the midfield defensive role in South Africa's starting lineup.
“It shouldn’t be happening that a player who plays in midfield at club level plays centre-back for the national team. Aaron should be competing for a place in midfield with players like Sibaya and Dikgacoi, because that’s where he plays at club level,” the outspoken coach said.
Hunt is also quoted by The Star newspaper saying one of his defenders Morgan Gould is “far better than Aaron Mokoena”.
Hunt explained, “What I’m saying is that Morgan deserves a chance, together with Siyabonga Sangweni and Bongani Khumalo. These three players deserve a fair chance to establish themselves,” the two-time League champion said.
Bafana Bafana take on Japan in an international friendly on Saturday afternoon at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth.
