Ruud Krol Worried About Benson Mhlongo Absence At Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates coach Ruud Krol has raised his concern about the absence of workaholic Benson Mhlongo.

The coach addressed his feelings after watching his team play out a disappointing goalless draw in a dreary Soweto Derby, from which a lot more was expected.

“I am worried about the absence of Benson,” said Krol of his influential midfielder, who is out with a knee injury, according to Kickoff.com.

Mhlongo picked up his problem during the AmaZulu game last week and appears to be out for the remainder of the year.

“We lost our momentum in midfield because we were missing Benson," he continued. "We had to play Gumbi [Mlungisi Mdluli], who hasn’t been playing so much. Benson is a good leader in my team and it is a heavy loss not to have him. I have been told that the swelling is still too much for the doctors to determine what happened to the knee. I must say that when I saw it, it didn’t look good.”

The Dutchman added that though the derby failed to produce any goals, it was an interesting match. He also admitted that Teko Modise has not been at his best this season.

“It was a special match in which not too many chances were created, but it was an interesting match. We came into this game wanting to win but we are satisfied with the point that we got.

“The results haven’t really gone our way of late but I cannot change what has happened in the past. We have a team in which international players like Teko Modise have had a heavy season and it happens all the time that they are bound to lose form,” said Krol.
