Coach Styles Phumo Leaves United FC
Former Bafana Bafana coach Styles Phumo has parted ways with newly-promoted First Division side United FC just four games into the season.
Styles Phumo joins his assistant coach Shakes Kungwane in going through the exit door from the club that has been acquiring PSL rejects in recent weeks. Phumo stepped down from his job with immediate effect citing personal reasons.Jabulani Mendu, Steve Lekoelea, MacDonald Mukansi and Scara Ngobese have been signed by the club in recent weeks.
“I have left the club due to what I would partly say were personal reasons. When you cannot achieve what you want, you move on,” Phumo told KickOff.com.
“My assignment was to get the team promoted and I am glad I achieved that and with the ambitions I have I thought I would continue in the First Division. But United FC is now a thing of the past for me. I am going back home to recharge my batteries with the hope that I will soon get another coaching job elsewhere.”
Phumo joined the Kroonstad based club two weeks prior to the start of the Vodacom League Play-offs in May and helped them to win promotion.
Prior to coaching at United FC Phumo had last coached the national Under-20 team in 2006 after also having previously worked at Bloemfontein Celtic and Ria Stars.
