Ajax Cape Town Suffer Defensive Setback
Ajax Cape Town have suffered a major blow ahead of the Cape Town derby against Santos at Newlands Stadium after midfielder Nhlanhla Shabalala was ruled out of action for three weeks due to injury.
Shabalala, who has now been converted into the right-back position at
Ajax, suffered an ankle injury during the MTN8 semi-final game against
Kaizer Chiefs at Orlando Stadium on Sunday and was replaced by Lance
Davids in the second half.
Urban Warriors’ CEO George Comitis confirmed the injury to Shabalala, according to Kickoff.com.
“It’s a big blow for us because, as you know, we are still struggling in defence due to a number of injuries and the delay in getting papers for some of our international players,” he lamented.
Comitis also confirmed that striker Stanton Lewis still has a long way to go before recovering from his injury.
Lewis has not kicked ball for Ajax Cape Town since returning from the Netherlands, where he was on loan at Ajax Amsterdam.
However, despite the setback of many injuries, the good news at Ikamva is that defender Nazeer Allie has recovered and is set to be back in action any time soon.
