A classy first half performance and early goal by Siyabonga Nkosi was enough to steer SuperSport United to a 1-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs in Atteridgeville.

The champions started very well and gave Chiefs no room to move, with Hlompho Kekana and Letladi Madubanya totally dominating Tinashe Nengomasha.

Striker Glen Salmon put in an enormous amount of work, closing players down and keeping the pressure on Chiefs right up to their last men, Jeffrey Ntuka and Thomas Sweswe.

The pressure paid off when Daine Klate eliminated Tlou Molekwane and swung in a perfect cross for Nkosi to score with his head against his former team. It was a well-deserved goal as Nkosi had been excellent up until that point.

Chiefs could not hold onto the ball long enough to start any attacking moves of note. SuperSport were tactically well drilled and played high up the field, pressing and closing Chiefs down. SuperSport were well worth their 1-0 half-time lead.

But Kaizer Motaung Jnr. did waste a rare chance for Chiefs in the first half. In the second half Chiefs were far better and enjoyed more possession, but SuperSport do enough to keep them out.

The main difference between the two sides was that, while United managed to get in behind Chiefs' full-backs and cause problems, the same could not be said about Amakhosi.

After missing another decent scoring chance, Kaizer Junior was replaced by Knowledge Musona, giving the supporters what they had been asking for since the first half.

But it was too little too late as a superior SuperSport take a deserved three points of Kaizer Chiefs.
