thumbnail Hello,

Ajax Cape Town have joined the race to sign Christian Vieri, who was once the most expensive player in the world.

The Italian striker was last month offered to Moroka Swallows following the expiry of his contract with Atalanta in Serie A, but nothing came of the move.

But according to sources at Ajax, negotiations between the Cape side and Vieri are ongoing, though club CEO George Comitis is refusing to comment.

KickOff.com understands that before making a move for Vieri, Ajax tried to sign former Ajax Amsterdam midfielder Clarence Seedorf.

Now at AC Milan, Seedorf was keen to join Ajax Cape Town, but the three-time Uefa Champions League winner wants to play in Europe for two more seasons before contemplating a move to South Africa.
