Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah: Zambia are my target
The Black Stars coach is optimistic that the commitment of the new team will bring them more joy as they get set to square off with the Chipolopolo on Saturday
The coach of Ghana, Kwesi Appiah, said his opening 2014 World Cup qualifying game against Lesotho was a "test match" for him ahead of the crucial encounter against Zambia this coming Saturday. The Black Stars coach said the 7-0 thumping of the southern Africans is of little concern to him, but using that particular game to get the right selection against the Chipolopolo was his primary target.
“Even though we got some goals here, I am not looking at the goals, I am looking at how best we can perform in Zambia,” Appiah told the press before leading the team to South Africa for training.
“It’s really good considering the fact that we were playing at home and got a lot of goals, and tactically they played according to how I expected them to play.
“I made them aware that this [Lesotho game] was my first game and this was an opportunity for some of them as well so they should try and prove that given the chance they can also play,” Appiah stated.
“So they were more like playing the game for me, themselves and for the nation.”
The four-time African champions will now face the reigning continental champions in Ndola on Saturday after winning their opening 2014 World Cup qualifying game at home.
