Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah persuading Asamoah Gyan to return to Black Stars
The Black Stars coach is hoping to get the Al Ain striker to change his mind about the senior national team as he seeks to get a solid unit for upcoming 2014 World Cup qualifiers
Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah is set for talks with striker Asamoah Gyan at his United Arab Emirates base in order to persuade the striker to reconsider his international retirement. The Black Stars coach is currently in UAE to check on the Al Ain striker’s progress, according to an official Ghana FA statement.
Gyan announced his decision to retire temporarily from the senior national team after going through public backlash over his unsatisfactory performance at the 2012 African Cup of Nations (Afcon).
“He [Appiah] will talk with Gyan over his decision to temporarily retire from the Black Stars,” the statement said.
The visit is Appiah's first official foreign trip since taking over the Black Stars a few weeks ago.
He will continue his visit to some European countries later this week including Italy where he is scheduled to meet Sulley Muntari and Kevin-Prince Boateng.
