Ghana’s Kwesi Appiah: I’m ready to welcome Asamoah Gyan and Kelvin Prince-Boateng
The new coach has opened his arms ready to embrace all those who felt aggrieved in the previous regime
The new coach of Ghana, Kwesi Appiah, is willing to have retired, but active players of the Black Stars – Asamoah Gyan and Kelvin-Prince Boateng – back in the team if they are ready to return.Appiah said that so far as he remains the coach of the Black Stars no player will be prevented to have a chance with the national side once that prospective candidate has proven himself.
Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan retired recently after a public backlash over his performance at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations following on the heels of Kevin-Prince Boateng, who also gave up the international boots due to a suspected misunderstanding with former coach Goran Stevanovic.
However, coach Appiah believes the time has come for all those who felt aggrieved in the previous administration to rescind their decision and join the new regime.
“I have spoken to Asamoah Gyan on two occasions hoping that he will come back. No one can doubt his quality. He is a very good player who will be a good addition to our plans if he is available to us,” Appiah told the official website of the Ghana FA.
“But it’s up to him to make that decision.”
On Boateng he said, “We will always try to use the best players available. But like I said, the decision will rest with Kevin and if he chooses to rescind his decision to make a return, we will be happy.”
