Ghazel el Mahalla’s Samuel Owusu: Ghana are not over yet

The Ghanaian player sees a very strong Black Stars in the coming months after a disappointing 2012 Africa Cup of Nations outing
Ghazel el Mahalla player Samuel Owusu has cautioned Ghanaians to be mindful of their utterances regarding the Black Stars since that could affect the stability of the national team.The Ghanaian said local fans went too far in criticising their players after the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations and that could psychologically break down the players.
“Everybody including me is hungry for trophies after 30 years of continental wait, but we don’t talk openly about our national team players like they have done nothing better for us in the past,” Owusu told Goal.com from his Egypt base.
“I felt bad although down with the Afcon fourth-place finish when I read about what was going on in Ghana. Personally, I think we should encourage them instead of treating them like nobodies.
“We have a lot of promising stars and the likes of Andre Ayew, Jonathan Mensah have shown that the future is bright with the team so we must not discourage them at all,” the former Asante Kotoko player said.
Owusu has been in form for his Egyptian team that he helped promote to the northern African country’s top flight. In 2010, he scored 12 goals to move them from the second-tier league to the Premier side this season.
So far he has in his name five goals from 10 games. He was on the verge of signing for Al Ahly when the Egyptian revolution erupted.
“The future is uncertain, but I’m very sure things will work out for me in the coming months. I’m taking it one step at a time. Nothing is impossible,” Owusu told Goal.com.
