Caf donates €113,731 to Egypt’s Port Said Victims

The continental body has pledged funds to assist families of those who lost their lives in the encounter between El Masry and Al Ahly

Following its Executive Committee meeting on February 11, the Confederation of African Football (Caf) has announced a financial support donation of €113,731 to the families of the victims of the Port Said tragedy in Egypt.

More than 70 fans lost their lives and scores more were injured during an Egyptian Premier League match between El-Masry and Al-Ahly on February 1 in the port city.

Caf flew its flag at half mast since the tragic event occurred. The amount will be donated to those who were affected by the deaths as a result of the clashes.

In addition, a minute of silence was observed in honour of the victims from the quarter-finals stage till the final of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations, which was won by Zambia on Sunday night.
