Ghaly's agent Nader Shwaki confirmed the news and confirmed that the 28-year-old's blood will be examined for a second time later this week.
"Al Nassr received a notification from the Saudi Football Association's disciplinary committee that Ghaly had tested positive for a banned substance," Shwaki was quoted as saying by Egyptian reporters.
"Another sample of Ghaly's blood will be examined this week as the club wait to find out the nature of the substance. There must be something wrong because Hossam is a professional who is fully aware of the gravity of using banned substances."
The holding midfielder joined Al Nassr in January 2009 after previously wearing the shirts of Derby County, Tottenham Hotspur, Feyenoord and Al Ahly.
